Survey Conducted at Jal Vihar

  • The Madrasi camp at Jal Vihar, Lajpat Nagar, New Delhi consists of thousands of Tamil domestic and class-four employees who migrated from their home towns down south many generations ago. Adult family members leave early for work, usually taking the older children with them and leaving the younger ones to take care of the infants at home.
  • The adolescent children especially girls get neither education nor nutrition and no options to improve their lot. In 2009 we conducted a baseline survey, under the sponsorship of Unniti Foundation, to collect the data to assess the basic requirements of this ‘target’ group.
