This programme began with a focus on youth and women empowerment through capacity building and the development of self-reliant skills. Over time, it has expanded to support economic and social sustenance for all, regardless of gender. The core aim remains to uplift individuals by providing them with practical tools and opportunities for independence and growth.
Before the pandemic, we implemented several impactful projects, such as vocational training courses for women, adolescent girls, and unemployed youth; skill development for homemakers to generate alternate income; and assistance in the production and marketing of handmade wares. Our initiatives also included adult and functional literacy classes, and hands-on training in mala (necklace) making, diya making, rakhi making, knitting and crochet, bookbinding, tailoring, parlour skills, gift-wrapping, embroidery, and stitching. Items created by trainees were sold at Diwali events in the Blind School and at citywide melas, and were available year-round at our project office.
